Evaluating and Improving Websites
The Destination Web Watch
Published by World Tourism Organization (WTO) - World Tourism Organization Business Council (WTOBC)In recent years, investment by destination management organisations (DMOs) in websites has increased substantially. Online marketing activities make up an important part of the operational programmes of many DMOs, local, regional and national. This publication looks at evaluation of destination websites and the tools to improve them.
The International Federation for IT and Travel and Tourism (IFITT), and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) have agreed to jointly establish a scheme to help DMOs evaluate and benchmark the quality and effectiveness of their web activities and their return investment. This report is an introduction to the scheme, which is called the WTO/IFITT Destination Web Watch.

Tourism and Sustainable Community Development
By Derek HallPublished by Routledge, 2003
As the tourist industry becomes increasingly important to communities around the world, the need to develop tourism sustainably has also become a primary concern. This collection of international case-studies addresses this crucial issue by asking what local communities can contribute to sustainable tourism, and what sustainability can offer local communities. Individually these investigations present a wealth of original research and source material. Collectively the book illuminates the term community, the meaning of which, it is argued, is vital to understanding how sustainable tourism development can be implemented in practice.
