East Midlands
Tourism contributes £5.9 billion per annum to the East Midlands economy and supports around 100,000 jobs. Each year the region welcomes approximately 141 million day and overnight visitors.
The East Midlands is made up of 6 counties: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. The region covers an area of 15,008 square kilometres and offers dramatic landscapes, imposing country houses, vibrant cities and traditional English market towns.
The tourism structure in the region consists of a regional tourism body, providing the lead on regional tourism development, and five destination management partnerships with responsibilities for managing their sub region as a tourist destination.
East Midlands Tourism
East Midlands Tourism was established in 2004 by the East Midlands Development Agency to improve the skills, quality standards and the competitiveness and value of the tourism industry in the region. It works with five sub regional delivery partners who act as the first point of call for business and visitors.
East Midlands Tourism s activity focuses on four key strands – marketing, quality, investment and skills. Initiatives include a training scheme for taxi drivers, a series of online guides to help businesses broaden their visitor experience, marketing campaigns in key European markets and an investment programme to strengthen the region s tourism offer
