East of England

Tourism generates around £5.3bn annually for the East of England economy, employing approximately 185,000 people. The region, which covers Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, receives over 13million staying visits each year.
The East of England, based around the ancient kingdom of East Anglia, has preserved much of its unspoilt character, rural landscape, architecture and traditions. The region is home to Britain s oldest recorded town, Colchester, and the historic cities of Cambridge, Norwich, Peterborough and St. Albans.
A single body has responsibilities for promoting tourism in the region with strategic support from the Regional Development Agency.
The East of England Development Agency
The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) has responsibility for the strategic support of tourism and leads the development of a regional tourism strategy.
Leading on strategy and advocacy for tourism in the region, EEDA links policy with economic prioritisation, supporting business and skills development and ensuring regional intelligence is gathered. EEDA aims to increase the number of international and business visitors to the region by 3% each year between 2009 and 2015
East of England Tourism
East of England Tourism undertakes the promotion of the region, in conjunction with local authority partners, VisitBritain, EEDA and the tourism industry.
East of England Tourism was launched in 2007 as a company limited by guarantee. Funded by government, local authorities, industry members and its own commercial activities, East of England Tourism covers the six counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
The new executive team at East of England Tourism has put in place a robust framework to deliver its strategic priorities, and to maximise the potential of tourism promotion.
