London

London

Tourism is one of the key drivers of London s economy, generating approximately £16.6 billion in visitor spending each year and supporting around 253,000 full time equivalent jobs.

London welcomes around 15 million overseas visitors each year, with an additional 10 million overnight visitors coming from within the UK. Approximately 150 million tourism day trips are made annually to the capital.

Since winning the bid for 2012 Olympics, the capital has become a natural choice for major world-class events. Events for London, a partnership between the Mayor, the London Development Agency and Visit London, is tasked with attracting, developing and staging major sporting and cultural events in London.

A single body has responsibilities for promoting tourism in the capital with strategic support from the Regional Development Agency

London Development Agency

The London Development Agency (LDA), the Regional Development Agency for the capital, has devolved responsibility from the Mayor for tourism development. It manages the tourism and visitor economy and contracts out the marketing and promotion of London as a tourist destination to Visit London.
